CSWD Accepted Materials

Our drop off center at Green Mountain Compost does their best to turn our food scraps into usable compost in a matter of weeks. This means that they have very strict guidelines about what can and cannot be composted at their facilities. We do our best to pass this information onto you, and to keep all of our customers updated if and when this list changes.

Here is the list of what is acceptable to put into your No Waste Compost bin:

  • All food scraps of any kind

  • BPI certified compostable bucket liners ONLY - BioBag is the most trusted brand that fits these standards. If the individual bag does not have the BPI logo, they will not be accepted (see image below)

  • Coffee liners & tea bags (unbleached paper only - no plastics or metals of any kind)

  • Paper towels and napkins - only if they do not contain bodily fluids, bleach, or chemicals of any kind

  • Wooden or bamboo stirrers, toothpicks without plastic frills, chopsticks (all untreated with chemicals)

  • Uncoated paper leaf bags

  • Pet bedding such as hay or wood shavings from rabbits, hamsters, etc. as long as it was not pre-treated with any chemicals or herbicides (if you are unsure, do not compost)

Liner Policy

The most trusted BPI certified compostable liner brand on the market is BioBag. Please see Terms & Conditions, Section 3 for our policy regarding non-compostable material removal from contaminated bins.
